Aims:

Development of a converter for volumetric meshes and data fields handled by the reservoir engineering and geology team from CENPES, for the purposes of characterization and simulation of reservoirs.
The developed software has got as a main objective to read various types of file formats to seven different types of meshes, aiming to provide the following operations:

  • Conversion between the different types of meshes;
  • Geometrical operations on meshes and properties;
  • Mesh visualization;
  • Mesh saving in different file formats.

Benefits:

Diversity of patterns in the meshes specifications cause trouble to the integrated studies on geology, geophysics and reservoirs engineering.
Each course of study has its own culture for the representation of heterogeneities, and so, the terminology used for meshes identification is often ambiguous or insufficient.
Communication becomes difficult even within each course of study, in a dynamic scenery where the 3D modeling has been replacing the traditional 2D approach, more flexible kinds of meshes are more and more used, and new software for the modeling, visualization and pre-processing, each one with their own data representation specificities are offered constantly. Data format of programs are not immediately compatible, so significant time is wasted with simple issues like setting data origin position in the various representations.
In practice, that diversity of patterns and confusion affect directly the modeling work, and they are also responsible for many quality and productivity problems on reservoir integrated studies.
