Aims:

Electric furnaces of iron-alloys from CVRD, when operating, suffer from wear and tear on their layers of carbonous paste and heat-resistant material, thus reducing the furnace’s thickness and isolation capacity, while increasing the temperature of the furnace’s external surface. According to the wear and tear level, a precocious furnace stop might need to be scheduled due to material leaking through holes, caused by wear and tear.

Solutions:

Possessing of such pieces of information and an appropriate mathematical model for the problem (analogous electric circuit, to the current case), the software will be able to estimate wear and tear levels of the furnace’s walls, providing basic information to make a decision about necessary interventions to replace the insulating material.

Benefits:

To avoid such precocious stops by using a routine estimate of the wear and tear levels in the furnace’s wall. Such estimate is obtained through mathematical models applied to the furnace’s operation conditions, such as power supplied to raw material, wall thickness, thermal conductivities from iron-alloys and insulating materials, measures of the internal temperature and at several points on the furnace's external wall. Such measures may be performed in different ways, for instance, through thermography or thermocouple measuring.
